Dallas City Manager's Recommended Budget Includes Lotsa Library and Park Employee Cuts

Link to August 9 Dallas News article, "Dallas budget briefing today may spur council debate".

Excerpt: In a rare Monday meeting, the Dallas City Council will be briefed today on City Manager Mary Suhm's recommended budget for the coming fiscal year.

Suhm's plan includes no increase in the property tax rate but calls for slashing many city services and raising some fees to cover a massive funding gap.

The council has been divided on whether a tax increase is needed to eliminate the need for some of the deepest cuts Suhm proposes. Those include reduced hours at recreation centers, less maintenance at city parks and fewer library employees.

Suhm's budget also calls for about 440 layoffs, mainly from the park and library systems.
