Louisiana MAGA gets their way: Trump throws in sufficiently servile U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy M.D. under the bus

Dr. Bill is chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP). He voted to confirm RFKjr as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He values his personal political survival over public health.

On February 21, 2021, Cassidy voted to convict Trump on a single article of impeachment, and he's been groveling for an endorsement at the altar of Trump every since.

It was NEVER going to happen, Bill.

Katie Glueck reports:
When Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana recently brought Senator John Thune, the majority leader, to a local oyster bar, he called it a “Baton Rouge favorite.”
That description may no longer apply to Mr. Cassidy, though, if the lunchtime crowd there this week was any indication. As patrons trickled into Phil’s Oyster Bar and Seafood Restaurant, some muttered insults and declarations about never voting for him again.
“I like Trump,” Christy Meyer, a retiree from Bayou Blue, La., said on her way to lunch at the restaurant, which is plastered in Louisiana State University memorabilia and known for its charbroiled oysters. “He goes against Trump a lot.”

Zack Montague reports:
Secretary of State Marco Rubio personally approved the deportation of five student activists last year after receiving memos largely describing their participation in pro-Palestinian protests and their writings about the war in Gaza, according to internal government documents unsealed by a federal judge on Thursday. [emphasis added]
The documents reveal new details about how the Trump administration decided to target the activists, who were all foreign students visible in campus protests. They had been in the United States legally but were arrested and threatened with deportation last spring.

Both Ellisons have connections to President Trump. Larry Ellison has frequently visited the White House and Mar-a-Lago. David Ellison recently sat with the president at an Ultimate Fighting Championship match and later spent $7.7 billion to buy the league’s broadcast rights.

What’s notable: MGX has been involved in at least two deals involving Mr. Trump. Last year, a so-called stablecoin developed by the Trump family’s cryptocurrency firm, World Liberty Financial, was used to complete a transaction between MGX and Binance, the largest crypto exchange in the world.
MGX also helped finance a $100 billion initiative announced by Mr. Trump last January that is focused on building A.I. data centers. Oracle also participated. [emphasis added]
