U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy defended his vote to confirm Robert Kennedy Jr. as federal health secretary, even as he accused RFK of running the Health and Human Services department on a “foundation of lies.” 

Cassidy’s justification of his vote this week was unusual. Typically, when reporters ask if he regrets the RFK Jr. confirmation vote, Cassidy dodges the question and says he prefers to look forward.

But in a recent appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Cassidy argued that Kennedy would have been an influential White House advisor even without the HHS position, saying “the president seems to be fascinated with the Kennedys," so it was better to subject RFK to the “guardrails” the senator negotiated during the confirmation process. 

“You can criticize that,” Cassidy said. “But I’m not sure it’s quite as black and white as people like to say.”
