City Manager Tom Herre said in a press release issued late Tuesday afternoon the cuts were necessary to address a $1.7 million budget shortfall.
Among the proposed personnel cuts is the elimination of the entire five-person Assessor's Office. The function would be contracted to a private company.
"These steps are necessary to address a severe budget shortfall and are among other actions that will be recommended to close a gap that had earlier been estimated at $1.7 million," said Herre.
The complete 2012 budget proposal coming before the City Council next week in a special budget deliberation includes the following additional employee cuts or employment reductions.
No specific mention of how the library budget might fare, but City Manager Tom Herre warns of "some degradation of services in many cases".
