Fond du Lac City Manager Sez Governor's Tools Not Enough to Offset Cuts

And he places cuts to library funding on the table.

City manager: 2012 budget will be tough. Fond du Lac Reporter, 8/1/2011)

Excerpt: In a budget summary, Herre said 2012 will be a struggle due to a combination of factors: re-negotiation of labor contracts after two successive years of no cost-of-living increases, the continuing demands of funding the storm-water program from the property tax levy, and the expectation of cuts in shared revenue as a result of a massive state budget deficit.

"Cuts that we have taken from the state are more severe than the tools provided by the governor, and will not allow us to make up that difference," Herre said. "The payments now required for state employees into our retiree program do not include police and fire, which is a big share of our work force, so we don't have that to fall back on."

Herre said actions that deserve consideration will include: closure/ mothballing of Taylor Park Pool, reduction in library funding, initiation of charges for city services in support of non-profit organization events, and reduction/alteration of public works services
