100 Show Up at Dodgeville Budget Hearing
City residents respond to efficiencies committee report. (Dodgeville Chronicle, 9/8/2011)
Excerpt: The City of Dodgeville's Finance Committee wanted suggestions from local residents on budget priorities.
Last Wednesday they got their chance to listen as citizens packed the council room. The committee presented findings and suggestions from an ad hoc "Efficiencies Committee" and gave an overview of the proposed budget for 2012.
Earlier this year it looked as if the city was going to have to make major cuts. However, recently released figures shows the outlook is not all that bleak.
Mayor Jim McCaulley told the 100 members of the public at the meeting initially the city was looking at an $116,000-$150,000 loss in state revenue. Now the figure has been adjusted to a loss of only $65,054 or 8.37%.
"This is good news because it would have been a real challenge with what we thought our initial cut was going to be," said McCaulley.
