Towering Isthmus: The question remains, "What's up next for the former Madison Central/MATC site?"

9 months later, the fencing has yet to be removed and the hold filled.

Nicole Pollock reports:
Months after a developer suspended plans to redevelop an entire block near the Capitol Square, the city is negotiating an agreement with the leaseholder to at least improve the look of the partially demolished site — and make it safer — until a project there gets underway.
The former Madison Area Technical College Downtown campus at 33 W. Johnson St. has been the subject of several unsuccessful redevelopment attempts since it closed to students in 2019.
MATC, also known as Madison College, still owns the property. The ground lease is held by Missouri-based developer Drury Southwest, which demolished the building’s atrium and parking lot to make way for a large hotel before abandoning the project during the COVID-19 pandemic.
