GET ME REWRITE: Trump trade wars and tariffs screw Wisconsin farmers

Headline:  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 1/5/2025

Laura Schulte reports:
After a year of navigating tariff trade wars, farmers are banking on a promised $12 billion in aid from the Trump administration. The question for Wisconsin growers now: Will the money be enough to save operations facing steep payments on this year's crops?
Experts anticipate that the aid will help farmers, but it won't cover the 2025 losses from countries pulling back on their purchases of American goods. [emphasis added]
Trump announced in December a one-time $12 billion package to take the pressure off America's agricultural industry while the administration pursues new trade deals it believes will benefit farmers in the long run. The aid will include $11 billion in one-time payments to crop farmers that are covered by the Department of Agriculture's Farmer Bridge Assistance program. The remaining $1 billion will go to crops not covered by the program, according to a report from The Hill.

Another big fuck-up: Trump's $12 billion bailout doesn't come close to making up what farmers have lost thanks to his tariffs and trade war.  (12/9)
