Pence will be joined by fellow Republicans former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Wisconsin Congressman Mark Neumann for the ceremony Aug. 29 at Franklin Field, according to the college. The baseball stadium is part of the Ballpark Commons development next to the Rock Sports Complex at South 76th Street and West Rawson Avenue.
Anticipating blowback, the college defended the decision to invite Pence in the same statement that announced his participation, saying it is not an endorsement of a political party and “cannot” be viewed as a political event.
