Since taking control of state government in 2016, the Iowa GOP has used the Scott Walker playbook as its bible, such as in the area of stomping on local control.County supervisors say they've reached out to the Department of Natural Resources about matters including construction, impacts on drainage, road infrastructure, residential development and environmental concerns.
The department consistently has overruled local concerns and granted concentrated animal feeding operations permits because the applicant has met the state matrix requirements.
Steady populaion growth through 1960, and then a slow decline. Mason City is the county seat. Cerro gordo is Spanish for 'fat hill'.
