Excerpt: The role of the Poet Laureate is, “to promote the influence of poetry and to serve as a herald for Wisconsin's poets and their work; to enrich the lives of Wisconsin's citizens by sharing and encouraging the gift of poetry.” In his new role, Dethlefsen will be expected to “contribute to the growth of poetry in the state, plan and attend statewide literary events, perform at government, state and civic events as requested by the Governor's office, school systems and/or non-profit organizations, (and) visit most of the various regions of the state at least once during term.”
