Flipping the House and flipping off Trump: Democrat Zach Dembo defeats Republican Ralph Alvarado in election for open seat in Kentucky 6th congressional district

Republican Andy Barr has represented the district since 2013.  During his 7th term in the U.S. House of Representatives, he announced his intention to run for Governor of Kentucky.  He won handily -- by 12 percentage points.

Democrat Zach Dembo pulled off quite the flip:  from a 28-point GOP advantage in 2024 to a more than 9-point advantage for Democrats in 2026.

WKYT new staff report:
Dembo served in the U.S. Navy in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps until 2017, when he went to work for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.
In 2020, he left Washington to work in Gov. Andy Beshear’s administration as a policy adviser and later legislative director. After that, he served as an assistant U.S. attorney..
