Iowa GOP: Soft on crime
Nearly 1,600 people were charged in the riot that injured 140 police officers and temporarily halted Congress from certifying Biden's 2020 election victory, according to Justice Department figures. About 1,270 people were convicted of charges associated with the riot.
In Iowa, 10 people who were charged with Jan. 6-related offenses are receiving reprieves from Trump. Nine Iowans were pardoned after facing convictions, and a tenth, who was not yet convicted, will have his case permanently dismissed.
They include Doug Jensen of Des Moines, who was seen in a viral video wearing a QAnon T-shirt as he pursued a Capitol Police officer up a stairway near the Senate chamber; as well as Kyle Young of Redfield and Salvador Sandoval of Ankeny, both of whom received stiff prison sentences after being found guilty of violence against police in the rioting.
