Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been found in a flock of 2,771,300 commercial laying hens in Hyde County, North Carolina.
The presence of the virus was confirmed on January 7, according to information from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
Until now, North Carolina had not had any commercial poultry flocks affected by HPAI since February 20, 2024, when a commercial meat turkey flock in Duplin County was infected.
