Link to March 7 Rockford Register-Star article, "Rockford library staff, patrons settle into changes."
Excerpt: Dawn Lego’s noon deadline to submit assignments for her online accounting class didn’t used to be a problem.
She would get to the Rockford Public Library’s Main Branch at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Thursdays to file her homework just in time to meet the class requirement.
But after budgetary issues forced the library to lay off staff and open its doors later, Lego has struggled to meet her deadlines.
Effective Jan. 18, the six library locations decreased their morning hours and even started closing certain days.
“The hours have been changed for a month now and it has been difficult for me,” Lego said. “If the library doesn’t open until noon, my postings usually get in late. On Thursdays, my postings are due and this library is closed on Thursdays.”
