Madison Youth Arts Center: December site visit

Filled with natural light and colorful accents, the building is now the full-time home of Madison Youth Choirs, which fills many of its large classroom studios each Sunday with hundreds of youthful singers, all wearing face masks and seated four feet apart as they rehearse. The organization formerly occupied shared space in Westgate Mall, since torn down.

As a massive construction crane swings above and crews begin to finish a colorful, playful exterior and intricate interior, the $35 million Madison Youth Arts Center, a 65,000-square-foot gem, is taking shape as part of a larger 11-story housing and retail project by Stone House Development on the 1000 block of East Washington Avenue.
The four-story arts center, with a main entrance at the corner of East Mifflin and North Ingersoll streets, will be anchored by the Children’s Theater of Madison and Madison Youth Choirs but also offer much-needed studio, exhibition and performance space to many organizations that have long been starved for quality space.

South Africa has passed its omicron peak in a flash

Number of new cases peaked on December 21, 2021
Worldometers (above and below)

Daily new deaths peaked on January 19, 2019

New York Times, 12/30/2021
“The speed with which the Omicron-driven fourth wave rose, peaked and then declined has been staggering,” said Fareed Abdullah of the South African Medical Research Council. “Peak in four weeks and precipitous decline in another two. This Omicron wave is over in the city of Tshwane. It was a flash flood more than a wave.” The rise in deaths over the period was small, and in the last week, officials said, “marginal.”
