David Iversen reports:
The record comes amid a stretch of extreme heat across metro Phoenix. Temperatures have reached or exceeded 110 degrees for multiple consecutive days, and the National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning through the end of the week. 
Maricopa County has confirmed 113 heat-related deaths so far in 2026, with another 584 under investigation, putting the total caseload at 697, already surpassing the record 645 heat deaths counted for all of 2023. [emphasis added]
