GET ME REWRITE: U.S. Senate finds common ground with Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act

Headline:  WATT Poultry, 4/23/2026

Roy Graber reports:
The Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act, introduced by Sens. John Fetterman, D-Pa., Jim Justice, R-W.Va., Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Michael Bennet, D-Colo., would amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to add hot rotisserie chicken to the list of SNAP-eligible items. Under current law, SNAP recipients may purchase a cooled rotisserie chicken but not the same bird served hot off the rotisserie.
The bill does not expand overall SNAP funding, increase participant eligibility or allow other hot prepared foods. It applies only to eligible grocery retailers and would not extend benefits to restaurants.
“Allowing SNAP recipients to purchase hot rotisserie chicken is a simple, practical step to make the program work better for the people it serves. For seniors, working families, and those without reliable access to cooking equipment, this is about convenience and dignity. With multiple states — including West Virginia — already requesting flexibility in this area, this bill brings SNAP in line with real-world needs while making smart, efficient use of taxpayer dollars,” said Capito.
