Nicole Pollock reports:
The project has divided neighbors and been met with skepticism by city planning staff. It would be situated between the two major thoroughfares and a pocket of commercial properties that includes a Home Depot store. The area is not planned for residential development, and it has limited pedestrian access and high levels of vehicle emissions and highway noise, staff said in a May report that recommended against letting the project move forward.
The project site is in the vicinity of two small grocers, not exactly walkable considering the barriers created by the massive Beltline/Verona Road interchange. It is 2 miles from the closest large, full-service grocery store.
