William Morris reports:
Kyle Young was scheduled to address the Dallas County Republican Party Central Committee on the evening of April 24, chair Madonna Johnson confirmed to the Des Moines Register.
Young, of Redfield, was one of 10 Iowans charged in the Jan. 6 attack at the end of President Donald Trump's first term in office. All 10 were pardoned or their charges were dismissed in one of the Trump's first acts after being inaugurated for his second term Jan. 20.
Young had received the longest sentence of any Iowan: more than seven years. [emphasis added]
Dallas County GOP meetings have generally been open to the media, and Johnson initially invited a Des Moines Register reporter to attend the event. But on the afternoon of April 24, after a conversation with a reporter, she called back and said the meeting would be closed to the media.
