Stephen Gruber-Miller writes:
"This is the worst bill we have ever seen come out of the Iowa Legislature, and that is a high bar," said Max Mowitz, executive director of the LGBTQ rights group One Iowa. "This would wreak havoc on the lives of transgender people across the state, upending their ability to do basic things like rent an apartment or get a credit card."
Rep. Steven Holt, R-Denison ["Bucky", shown above], who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, said the gender identity protections in the Iowa Civil Rights Act could threaten Republican-backed legislation in recent years banning transgender youth under 18 from receiving gender-affirming medical care, restricting transgender students from using school bathrooms that align with their gender identity and banning transgender women and girls from competing in female sports.
