Conservation groups and public land advocates packed a committee room at the Iowa Capitol on Wednesday to protest the bill, while several farmers spoke in support.
"It is very important that we do not repeal this amendment, in part just to keep our families here," said Ryan Smith, executive director of the Iowa Wildlife Federation and grandson of former U.S. Rep. Neal Smith. "I am a father of six. We still have a family farm corporation, and my kids are not particularly interested in living in a state where we do not have outdoor opportunities."
