What's wrong with the New York Times: Jess Bidgood struggles to find her mojo as contributor to "On Politics" newsletter

HeadlineNew York Times, 10/21/2024

Retiring Guy's mom, a lifelong moderate Republican, voted for Barack Obama in 2008.  Sarah Palin was the tipping point for her.

Retiring Guy's dad, a Lutheran minister, died in 1999.  But if anyone like Donald Trump had been the GOP candidate for president while he was still living, he would have voted for the Democrat.  Dad would have been horrified by how low the GOP has sunk.

Yes, Jess, there are plenty of moderate Republicans out there.  Problem is, New York Times reporters spend too much of their time transcribing MAGA inanities as if they were gospel truth.  Not to mention slavishly regurgitating poll results.

Remember 2022?  Robert Cahaly?  Ring a bell?

Remember this 10/25/2022 headline?

I'm 99 44/100 sure that Andy Borowitz didn't intend this column as satire.

According to Merriam-Webster, the first-known use of mojo, as in a seemingly supernatural power, influence, or ability, occurred in 1983.

  1. dumpster diving
  2. mosh
  3. newsgroup
  4. repetitive strain injury
  5. seasonal affective disorder
  6. yup
