Look no farther than the Beaver Dam School Board.
Board member John Kraus Jr. brought the motion to the board and said he was not comfortable with requiring others to wear masks. He said there were no other mandates in the area.
“I move to lift the mask mandate, but say that they are highly recommended optional,” Kraus said. “I think this is here to stay and we have to move forward with things.”
Board member Marge Jorgensen asked for the mandate to stay in place until after the students return from winter break in order to give parents a chance to prepare for the change. The students have eight more days until the break.

Well, first of all, the county is still on fire with the virus.
And then there's a dysfunctional county board.
Nonetheless, some committee members insisted that there be a more cohesive plan for doling out ARPA funds. A plan to choose an ad hoc committee to narrow requests was rejected weeks ago, with opponents stating that the full board of 33 members should be involved.
“I brought forward that we should form an ad hoc committee and I got slapped in the face,” said County Board Chairman Russ Kottke. “The impression I got then was that we didn’t want to hear from department heads. Now you do, so I don’t know what we want. We’re jumping around like a fish in a lake.”
“We have 33 supervisors …,” said Dave Guckenberger.
“And 33 ideas,” said Kottke.
And finally, the low vaccination rate. In Dodge County, 48% of all residents are fully vaccinated, compated with 60% statewide.

Dodge County ranks 16th among Wisconsin's 72 counties in the average number of new cases per 100,000 residents during the past 14 days.
With 48% of all residents vaccinated, Dodge County ranks as the 13th least vaccinated county in the state. The state average is 59%.
Fortunately, things are nearly as bad as they were a year ago.

Number of new cases is up 65% from the previous week.
And in the first four days of the current reporting week, Dodge County has reported 262 cases. In other words, it's on track to eceed last week's big number.
At the tipping point. Which, according to an accompanying graphic, sez "Stay at home orders necessary". Dodge County doesn't even have a mask order in place.

Reporters neglect to ask Fitz for his comments on the situation. Nor do they ask him why, as State Senate Marjoirty Leader, he sat on his hands throughout the pandemic.
Dodge County has the 2nd-highest Covid-19 test rate per 100,000 persons among Wisconsin's 72 counties.
