Retiring Guy thinks it's time to list the reasons why he doesn't buy from Amazon

Insincerity at the top

Bezos did not acknowledge the deaths at the Amazon facility until he faced an avalanche of criticism about his silence. Finally, about 12 hours after he posted about the space flight, Bezos tweeted a brief acknowledgment of the deaths in Edwardsville. In a tweet, Bezos said he was "heartbroken over the loss of our teammates " and offered his "thoughts and prayers."

Bezos (still in his blue space suit?) posted the tweet at 7:59 p.m. on Saturday, December 11.

A tornado tore into the Edwardsville IL Amazon delivery depot around 8:35 p.m. on Friday, December 10.

Workers as cogs in a machine

That logistical peak also complicated the rescue effort in Edwardsville. The more than 250,000 drivers like Mr. Harris who fuel Amazon’s delivery network do not work directly for the company but instead are employed by over 3,000 contractor companies.

Most drivers work for other companies under a program called Delivery Service Partners. Amazon has said the contracting arrangement helps support small businesses that can hire in their communities. But industry consultants and Amazon employees directly involved in the program have said it lets the company avoid liability for accidents and other risks, and limits labor organizing in a heavily unionized industry.  [emphasis added]
