Climate Change/Ocean Acidification: Washington's Conservative Legislators Fiddle While the State's Baby Oysters Die by the Billions

A little background about this video.  "The ocean is so acidic that it is dissolving the shells of our baby oysters," says Diani Taylor of Taylor Shellfish Farms in Shelton, Washington. She and her cousin Brittany are fifth-generation oyster farmers, and are grappling with ocean waters that are more acidic and corrosive than their fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers knew.

This "ocean acidification" is one planetary response to humans' burning of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide that is absorbed by the oceans.

As Oysters Die, Climate Policy Goes on the Stump. (The New York Times, 8/3/2014)

Hidebound, short-sighted ideology trumps informed, long-term decision-making.  Mr. Inslee, who is campaigning for his agenda across the state this summer with oyster farmers in tow, is trying to position himself as America’s leading governor in the climate change fight. But Mr. Inslee does not have the support of the majority of the Washington State Senate, particularly those conservative lawmakers from the rural inland, so Mr. Steyer’s advocacy group, NextGen Climate, is working with the Washington League of Conservation Voters to handpick Democratic, pro-climate policy candidates across the state.
