Congratulations to Kaia Fry on the Occasion of Her Retirement

And for her steady, effective, and exemplary leadership

Not to mention her infectious friendliness and winning smile.  I always enjoyed the opportunities to talk with Kaia at 22 years' worth of Dane County and LINK librarians meetings.

Kaia Fry says goodbye to the Deerfield Library after 30 years. (Deerfield Independent, 12/14/2011)

Excerpt: “When we first came to Deerfield we would walk to the bookmobile every Monday evening,” Fry said. “It stopped on Main Street in front of the Deerfield Village Hall. One evening I received a phone call from the Deerfield village president, Donovan Osterlie. He asked if I would be willing to serve on the first Library Board in Deerfield. I was thrilled to be asked and excited about starting a public library here. At the time, I was a substitute teacher in Deerfield. Once the library started, I was a substitute for the librarians. Next, I was asked to be their Youth Services librarian, and in April of 1981 I accepted the position of director. It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been with the library 30 1/2 years.”

Kaia --

You many not remember me as much time has passed. I too remember that smile and the annual trivia event. Best wishes.
