This is what happens when too many members of a religious denomination join the Trump Cult

New York Times, 3/10/2021
Her stature in the movement poses a serious challenge for the Southern Baptist Convention, which has already been embroiled for years in debates not just about Mr. Trump, but about racism, misogyny and the handling of sexual abuse cases. Its membership is in decline.
Her departure is “tectonic in its reverberations,” said Jemar Tisby, the president of a Black Christian collective called the Witness. “Beth Moore has more influence and more cachet with Southern Baptists, especially white Southern Baptist women, than the vast majority of Southern Baptist pastors or other leaders. So her leaving is not just about one individual.”
The Southern Baptist Convention released its 2019 membership numbers on Thursday, showing a membership decline of more than 287,000. That brings their total membership down from 14.8 million in 2018 to 14.5 million last year. It was their 13th straight year of decline and the largest single year drop in more than a century, according to the denomination.

The good news is that some movie theaters are now slowly, cautiously inviting the public back in for the popcorn/soda/first-run-movie experience. The Marcus Palace Cinema in Sun Prairie, for example, is one of several venues in the Madison area welcoming patrons for socially distanced showings — or even a private theater rental.

Original 9/28/2020 post, "When was the last time you went to the movies?", starts here.

The weekend numbers from Box Office Mojo tell the story.

Movies Are Returning to Theaters. Will Audiences Follow?  TThe New York Times, 8/25/2020)
Theater executives have pointed to “Tenet” as the film that will send people cascading back into seats and restore a sense of normalcy to an industry that was essentially brought to a standstill by the pandemic. The economics for “Tenet” and other megamovies work only if lots of people leave their houses and buy tickets to see them in theaters. Put another way, if people don’t return to the theaters, it may change what is available to watch — studios may have to start making less expensive films.
