Norah Judson reports:
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate likened the early voting period to "20 days of Christmas." He told the Register mail-in ballot requests are "a little above" what they were two years ago, sitting at about 70,000 so far.
"The in-person early voting is what we're really monitoring, because we're seeing a lot of activity," Pate said. "Particularly those urban centers like Polk and Linn. Polk has been very brisk, so we'll watch that in the next few days and see how that's going."
Pate attributed the uptick in early voting numbers to the open U.S. Senate and governor's seats.
