Stephanie Chatfield, the wife of former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty last month to embezzling from the Peninsula Fund, a nonprofit campaign fund controlled by Lee and his associates, Robert and Anné Minard.
Stephanie Chatfield was initially charged in April 2024 with one count each of embezzlement from a nonprofit organization and conspiracy to commit embezzlement from a nonprofit organization. She and Lee Chatfield were set to go to trial later this year, but in June Stephanie Chatfield agreed to a plea agreement that saw the state drop two of the felony charges, one for embezzlement and another for conspiracy to commit embezzlement.
Instead, she agreed to plead guilty to embezzling from a political nonprofit organization, which remains a felony that carries prison time and a fine of between $200 and $1,000.
