Matthew Miller reports:In the wake of Thursday’s raid on Muskegon Heights City Hall by state police and federal agents, the city has placed its new City Manager Shawn Roberson on paid leave, while noting that the move is “administrative in nature and should not be construed as a determination of wrongdoing.

Roberson, who also serves as the city’s fire chief, did not immediately respond to a message sent seeking comment. He was appointed in June on the same night the former interim city Manager Pearlette Merriweather was abruptly fired in a split vote. After a six-month vacancy, Merriweather was hired to the position in August 2025.
The city had been without a city manager since January 2023, appointing interims since not renewing the contract of former City Manager Troy Bell.
