After interviewing four candidates, the six remaining board members voted unanimously to appoint Julaine Appling to the board through April 2026. 

Appling is a former teacher and served as a WUSD board member in the early 2000s. She is also a previous president of the Wisconsin Family Council, a Madison-based nonprofit that says it "actively preserves God’s plan for marriage, family, life and religious freedom in the public arena of Wisconsin."
