Earlier this year, Dubuque Democrat Heather DeMaio was feeling discouraged, facing the presidential election with a sense of dread.
But since Vice President Kamala Harris gained the Democratic nomination, DeMaio is feeling more optimistic and positive about the party’s chances of defeating Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“I was feeling just not heard,” she said. “I was feeling like we were just doing the same old thing. We needed something new. It was very discouraging.”
A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows DeMaio is not alone.
