All that remains of Manitowoc's old Mirro Aluminum Company building on Washington Street is the brick and cement archway thousands of employees walked in and out of through the years.
In the coming months, a developer plans to build housing on the square’s south side. Before the bulldozers begin digging, we thought we would take a look at Mirro and the Mirro site’s history in Manitowoc.
• 2022: After a few potential buyers showed interest in the vacated downtown site, city leaders accepted an offer from Milwaukee developer Wire Capital Group to build “workforce” or affordable housing on the south side of the property. The city sold the property for $1 because the area would be a former contamination site.
