Remembering the worst novelty record of all time
‘Golden Age’ Recalls When Novelty Songs Rivaled Rock. (Los Angeles Times, 5/11/2000)
Can't remember how I stumbled across this article, one that I emailed to myself a few weeks ago. Reading it reminded me of the songs that caused me to lurch for the radio dial whenever they started to play.
The egregious "They're Coming to Take Me Away" rocketed into the top 10 during the summer of 1966 but fell off even more quickly. The song got to people in a bad way.
By the way, the McMillan Memorial Library in Wisconsin Rapids owns a copy of Otfinoski's book.
