Vote to Restore Library Hours and Rehire Staff: Thanking God Again in Wayne Township, Indiana

Link to December 16 Indianapolis Star article, "4 Wayne Township library branches to rehire workers, extend hours".

Excerpt: Four library branches that serve Wayne Township will have longer hours restored and some employees rehired next year due to a temporary infusion of funds.

The Wayne Township Board approved an interlocal agreement with the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library that would allow the township to spend $200,000 of its surplus funds to help the Wayne, Eagle, Haughville and West Indianapolis branches.

The Township Board voted 6-1 on Dec. 9 in favor of the agreement.

Township Trustee David Baird, who wasn't re-elected and will leave office at the end of the year, initially suggested last summer the possibility of using township funds to help the libraries.

Baird's reaction to the council's vote: "Thank God, I've got sane people
