Council President Pro Tem to Introduce Resolution Approving Madison Central Library Renovation Project

Link to March 27 Wisconsin State Journal article, "Mayor 'fine' with library input from City Council".

Excerpt:   Cieslewicz quickly pivoted to a renovation costing an estimated $31 million after talks with the Fiore Cos. suddenly collapsed last week. Fiore’s plan would have delivered a new $37 million library and a $50 million second phase of private development.

The news surprised council members and Downtown business and resident groups, who are still wondering what happened and if the city should explore other alternatives.

The capital budget for 2010 authorizes spending for a Central Library project, but council president pro tem Mark Clear said the council and community took that to mean Fiore’s proposed six-story library at the corner of Henry Street and West Washington Avenue.
