Watertown Unified School Board members learn what happens when you censor a work of art

They unwittingly become a publicity machine!

An overflow audience from Watertown and beyond came to see a community performance of a piece of music banned by the school board. Omar Thomas, composer of the 4½-minute instrumental piece, flew in from Texas to conduct the symphony himself and was met with thunderous applause and a series of standing ovations.
An hour before the free concert at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, the line already stretched down the block, with about 500 or so treated to a triumphant one-song concert that saw at least a dozen standing ovations. About 3,200 people watched the concert’s livestream.
The normally 32-member Watertown High School wind symphony swelled to an ensemble of roughly 50, including high school band members, alumni and community musicians.
