Nicole Pollock reports:
A Milwaukee developer is proposing a pair of apartment buildings with approximately 500 total units close to the intersection of East Johnson and North First streets and the coming Madison Public Market.
As part of what would be a more than 8-acre redevelopment on Madison’s East Side, New Land Enterprises also hopes to preserve part of a prominent former factory building while leaving room for a possible future Amtrak station the city is interested in siting there.
New Land would demolish multiple low-rise industrial buildings along Pennsylvania Avenue that are currently owned by Hooper Corporation to make way for twin seven-story apartment buildings, according to plans submitted to the city. New Land is under contract to buy the existing buildings, the developer said in its submittal to the city.
