Kristin Shill reports:
The Joint Committee on Finance, controlled by Republicans, denied the $1.9 million request for the Veteran Housing and Recovery Program (VHRP).
“We make a promise to our veterans that when they return home to their civilian life, we will support and serve them just as they have supported and served us," Evers said. "Our veterans should not have to worry about being able to afford to keep a roof over their heads. Period."
The VHRP in Chippewa Falls and Green Bay will close by September 30, while Union Grove remains open. Applications for the closing sites are accepted until July 14. Veterans at the closing facilities will be offered alternative placements and continued support.
“We have a duty to support veterans, especially in their darkest times,” said WDVA Secretary James Bond. He emphasized the ongoing commitment to assist veterans despite the closures.
