Kyle Jones reports:
The park, established in 1951, is one of Dane County's oldest and features a campground, shelter, beach and basketball courts. This latest project is funded in part by over $1.6 million in philanthropic support in honor of Karen and Tom Ragatz, who died in 2021.
"Mendota County Park has long been a beloved part of the community," Dane County Executive Melissa Agard said. "This revitalization project will breathe new life into a space that means so much to so many."
The facelift was first designed in 2016 as part of the county's Master Plan for the park. The plan was made with input from the public, neighbors, parks staff and community stakeholders.
Beginning next month, crews will being replacing the park shelter, installing a new accessible and inclusive playground, adding a paved walking trail, rehabbing the basketball court, and reconstructing parking areas to boost circulation, accessibility and stormwater management.
The park will be closed during the duration of construction, which is expected to wrap up this fall.

Right next door to Middleton.
