Roy Gruber reports:
The ongoing outbreak, which began in September 2024, has now reached 43 flocks and resulted in the loss of more than 5 million birds, dealing a significant blow to Poland's poultry industry.
In late April, officials confirmed the disease in a flock of 64,013 birds in Skrzany. The virus killed 200 birds, while authorities depopulated the remaining 63,813 as part of control measures. On May 7, Newcastle disease struck a flock of 16,522 birds in Byszewice, with 2,886 fatalities before the remaining 13,636 birds were culled. The third recent case occurred in Mniów, affecting 27,680 birds, with 1,384 deaths and 26,296 birds depopulated.
The WOAH identified all affected flocks simply as "domestic poultry" without specifying which poultry species were involved in these outbreaks.
