Gavin Michaelson reports:
On Saturday night, the monitoring system detected movement in one of the bridge's piers that exceeded the safety thresholds.
The bridge about 30 miles south of La Crosse will remain closed until the sensor data is verified, and the situation is assessed.
The engineering contractor will conduct a thorough analysis to determine whether the bridge is safe to reopen. Once completed, they will provide a timeline for reopening.
This work is expected to be completed this week, according to the Iowa DOT. The Black Hawk Bridge is nearly a century old and work on a replacement bridge is ongoing.
The new bridge is expected to open in 2027. Recommended for you…

For residents of DeSoto (population 317) who work in Lansing (population 954), it's a 29-mile drive north to La Crosse and a 35-mile drive south to Prairie du Chien.
