It's Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, not Senate President Mary Felzkowski, who sets the agenda for the state legislature.
Headline: Wisconsin State Journal, 1/5/2025
Where the Republican-run Legislature has stalled progress — again and again — is on guns. Too many young people have easy access to far too many firearms. That needs to change before another horrific school shooting takes more lives of students and staff. [emphasis added]
And the reason for this stalling?
Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, 2/17/2022
Behind the Republican bill to shield firearm manufacturers from civil lawsuits, which was approved Wednesday by the state Assembly, lies more than $5 million in support from the National Rifle Association (NRA) over the last 24 years. [emphasis added]
The measure, Senate Bill 570, would prevent people from suing gun and ammunition makers, distributors, and dealers when their products are used illegally. The bill, which was passed earlier by the Senate, faces an almost certain veto by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers. The governor has unsuccessfully pushed the GOP-controlled legislature to take up gun control legislation.
