Wisconsin GOP leadership still sit on their hands while prison crisis worsens

Last year, the Republican-controlled Legislature approved significant raises for guards, which have begun to reduce the number of unfilled openings. The move came two years after a similar proposal died amid partisan infighting, leading the percentage of unfilled  sharply, exceeding 50 percent at four of the six prisons.  (emphasis added]

"Last year" was 2023, when Tony Evers was sworn in for this second term as Wisconsin's 46th governor.

"Two years after" was 2021, when Republicans regularly blew on the "Scary Black Man" dog whistle, hoping it would tank Evers' re-election bid.
