Nearly one-third of Iowa's laying hens have now been infected with avian flu

The counties where cases have been reported.

Three more bird flu cases raises infected to 20 million.  (Des Moines Register, 5/5/2015)

The numbers:
  • 28 outbreaks in 11 counties
  • 19,500,000 laying hens
  • 500,000 turkeys

With 60,000,000 hens, Iowa produces more eggs than any other state.  (This was before the plague, of course.)
