Marcus was a steady though unspectacular performer during the first two-thirds of the 20th century, spending 65 years in the 200-399 range. He worked his way into the top 200 in the mid-1960s and, with a boost from Marcus Welby, M.D., quickly jumped into the top 100, where he remained for 31 years (1970-2000).
