S. Gammon Road Street Reconstruction and West Towne Path Construction Project & Public Informational Meeting. (District 19 Blog, 2/18/2020)
The City of Madison and Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) are planning to begin the reconstruction of South Gammon Road from US HWY 12 & 14 (West Beltline HWY) to Mineral Point Road during the week of March 2, 2020. WisDOT has awarded the contract to Edgerton Contractors, Inc. of Oak Creek, WI. The project will consist of new asphalt pavement, concrete curb & gutter, storm sewer, traffic signals, street lights and driveway aprons. Sidewalk on the east side of Gammon Road will be replaced as needed to repair any damaged sections. Sidewalk on the west side of Gammon Road will be replaced with a 10-foot wide multi-use path. A portion of the West Towne Path will be constructed from Grand Canyon Drive to the west side of S. Gammon Road, including a bike / pedestrian underpass of S. Gammon Road. Construction is expected to continue for approximately 9 months.
Why this project might add to West Towne Mall's woes
- decline of bricks and mortar retail establishments
- decline in mall foot traffic
- coronavirus
