California Public Library Offers $1,000 Scholarship to High School Seniors

Library offers scholarship to West County seniors. (Contra Costa Times, 4/20,2011)

Excerpt: An annual $1,000 scholarship offered by the Friends of the Richmond Public Library and the Richmond Public Library is as timely and enticing as ever to students faced with rising costs to attend a four-year institution.

The award is open to students who are seniors at a high school in West Contra Costa and who are planning to attend a four-year college in the fall.

The requirements are comparatively simple.

Applicants must provide a copy of a letter of intent/registration to the college they will attend, include the names of any service/social organizations in which they participated, and give the names and amounts of other scholarships received.

The other requirement is a three-page, double-spaced, typed essay on the topic "Public Libraries in the New Millennium: programs and resources that will attract teenagers
."
