Ebooks, Netflix, and Library Building Projects (Part 16, Manross Memorial Library)
Work to begin in May on Manross library renovation. (Bristol Press, 4/18/2011)
Excerpt: A $500,000 renovation of the Manross branch library is set to get under way soon.
The project includes adding an elevator outside the existing building and a new storage room, along with overhauling the existing kitchen and restrooms. Parking lot repairs and landscaping improvements are also part of the plan.
City councilors recently approved a $264,000 contract with the S. Carpenter Construction Co. to serve as the general contractor on the project.
The major portion of the project is to install an elevator that will allow easy access between the main floor of the library and the meeting room downstairs.
The project will also improve the entrance to the lower level, officials said.
The Manross branch, erected in 1976, has a little less than 10,000 square feet of space. With the exception of a couple of small renovation projects, it remains pretty much the way it was originally constructed.
